Herman Miller

8,000 sf remodel / 500K / Completed July 2007

The program consisted of an interior renovation of a 1982 building supporting basic classrooms for Herman Miller, Inc. The learning center provides large and small classroom facilities, a centralized commons, and small campsites for break out space between meetings. The project included full interior design services, architectural coordination and graphic design.

The design concept stemmed from the exterior surrounding, its natural environment and the beautiful view of the lake. The design team developed a sense of identity by integrating Herman Miller’s history of “craft” along with powerful and influential graphics. Inspired by the glistening reflection of the water and light from the lake and chose maritime materials that incorporated this idea by bringing the outside in. The theme is skillfully carried throughout the warm and effective working space. This space “enables learning”, rather than forcing learning to conform to a space; it promotes an effective learning environment that is conducive to spaces that are technology enabled innovative, wireless, provide natural lighting, comfortable, flexible and functional.
