concept

The design at the Welcome Center and Student Services Building at Glendale Community College reflects the importance of open interactive spaces for the student and one place for basic services. The new building maximizes the use of exterior space to accommodate student’s peak periods. A series of large pivot doors open to the court allowing free flow in and out of the building. The North wall is an all glass elevation maximizing the interior to exterior relationship. The primary function in this day lit area are service desks located for easy access from a central point. These flexible desks are equipped with moveable screens, which allow them to be used as staff work areas during down times. Private and open office/work areas are contained within two open volumes adjacent to the central space. These areas are lit by a series of linear skylights providing daylight to staff.
